Diabetes is one of the most common and widespread diseases that has affected mankind. Across the globe, approximately 425 million people are affected and are suffering from diabetes and out of them roughly 75 million are Indians.  

Needless to say, it is important to know how to control diabetes especially when on an Indian diet. 
Luckily, there are a lot of Indian food items and dishes that actively help in the control and prevention of diabetes in patients. 

Not only patients but also in those who have yet to develop diabetes; certain Indian foods can help in the prevention of occurrences of diabetes in people altogether resulting in healthier and more for lifestyle as age progresses. 

By incorporating different spices and items in one’s diet, anyone can know how to control diabetes with Indian foods or whilst adhering to a diet consisting primarily of Indian dishes and food items. 

Here are some Indian foods that help in controlling and preventing diabetes.

1] Brown rice: 

Indian dishes are often high in carbohydrates such as white rice which is not the most beneficial for diabetics. Substituting plain white rice with brown rice which has much higher fiber content helps in controlling and preventing diabetes. 

2] Fenugreek seeds or methi: 

Another common spice used in a variety of Indian dishes, methi or fenugreek is characteristically known to help in the control of type 2 diabetes. 

3] Millets: 

Being a small group of seeds, millets are rich in minerals such as magnesium which help in the active digestion of starch. This makes them a great superfood to fend of diabetes. Consuming Indian dishes that consist of millets greatly helps in preventing diabetes. 

4] Bitter gourd: 

Bitter gourd or karela is one of the oldest known natural remedies against high blood sugar levels. Bitter gourd has inherent glucose reducing properties which make t an excellent choice for fighting against diabetes and preventing it from occurring in the future.

By making these food items a staple of one’s diet, anyone who follows an Indian diet can know how to control diabetes and prevent it from happening with Indian foods.
